Giving Back

Giving back is woven into the fabric of Outside’s identity. It’s about more than supporting the community—it’s about being an active participant in its well-being and future. We are deeply proud of the work we do through The Outside Foundation, and we are committed to continuing our legacy of service, stewardship, and making a positive difference in the place we call home.

We Get Kids Outside and protect and preserve local environments.

The mission of The Outside Foundation is twofold: to inspire the next generation by getting kids outside and to protect and preserve the local environment that makes our region so special. This mission is more than just words—it’s a promise we keep through hands-on programs and initiatives that touch lives and sustain our natural surroundings.

At the heart of our efforts to give back lies The Outside Foundation, an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that channels our passion for the outdoors into meaningful action. The Foundation is the primary beneficiary of our funds, resources, and collaborative promotional initiatives, all aimed at making a lasting impact on our community and environment.

Programs & Events

Kids in Kayaks

One of our most cherished programs, Kids in Kayaks, is designed to ensure that every middle school student in Beaufort County has the opportunity to experience the joy and wonder of kayaking. We believe that by connecting young people with nature, we can inspire a lifelong love of the outdoors and a deep respect for the environment. Through this program, we’re not just teaching kids how to paddle; we’re giving them a sense of adventure, confidence, and a connection to the natural world that will stay with them forever.

Oyster Recycling and Reef Building

The health of our waterways is crucial to the vitality of our community, and our Oyster Recycling and Reef Building initiatives are at the forefront of our environmental efforts. By recycling oyster shells and using them to create new reefs, we’re helping to restore vital habitats that support marine life and protect our coastline. This work is not just about preserving the past; it’s about building a sustainable future for generations to come.

Waterway Clean-ups

Our commitment to clean and healthy waterways extends beyond our own enjoyment of these spaces. Through regular waterway clean-ups, we mobilize volunteers and community members to remove trash and debris from our rivers, creeks, and marshes. Each clean-up is a testament to the power of collective action and our shared responsibility to care for the environment.
